In collaboration with Heights and Mind Foundation, FFEC introduces Project Buniyaad, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at educating women and young girls on nutrition and reducing stunting in newborn children. Launched in 2023, Buniyaad is a testament to our commitment to fostering holistic development within communities, starting with Trilokpuri.
Our journey with Buniyaad began with a comprehensive survey, delving deep into the socioeconomic status and health dynamics of the Trilokpuri community. The survey, focusing on married women in reproductive age groups and children aged 0-5 years, revealed critical insights:
- A majority of married women (98.8%) reside in unauthorized colonies, reflecting the socioeconomic challenges prevalent in the community. Despite facing financial constraints, a significant portion of women (12.9%) actively contribute to family income, showcasing resilience and economic engagement.
- While progress has been made in basic education access (53.6% literacy rate among women), a substantial illiterate population (46.4%) underscores the need for inclusive interventions.
- Trilokpuri boasts a substantial child population, yet a concerning proportion (33.1%) of children are unregistered, potentially indicating gaps in healthcare access. Despite the POSHAN scheme’s efforts, a vast majority of women (91.7%) have not received nutrition knowledge workshops, highlighting a crucial need for health education initiatives.
In response to the survey findings, FFEC initiated workshops focused on mother and child nutrition. These workshops aim to empower women with vital nutrition knowledge, enabling informed health decisions for themselves and their children.
Recognizing the community’s widespread use of social media, particularly WhatsApp, FFEC implemented a data centralization and monitoring system. This innovative approach facilitates tracking of children’s health metrics, enabling early detection of issues like stunting and timely interventions.
The challenges highlighted in the survey underscore the vulnerability of women in Trilokpuri due to socioeconomic factors. Lack of education, limited income, and healthcare access contribute to their vulnerability, hindering their agency within families.
In response, Buniyaad adopts a comprehensive approach, emphasizing inclusive knowledge-based initiatives and improved healthcare access. By empowering women with essential knowledge and leveraging technology for healthcare monitoring, Buniyaad promotes gender equality, enhances healthcare access, and fosters sustainable development within the community.
