Founder and Director
Yasmeen Fatimah worked in the Silicon Valley, California, USA for 15 years in senior product and services management roles in high-tech multinational corporations such as Intel, Visa, EMC and NetApp before returning to India to work towards social and economic equality in 2015. She has a Masters in Mathematics from Delhi University and MS Computer Sciences from Univerity of Florida.
She has many years of experience advocating for social justice and human rights and often presented at universities such as Stanford, UC Berkeley and UCLA.
She worked with crafts women in Lucknow and Aligarh and had her own designer brand, Yasmin’s Nazakat in the 90s before moving to the US. She is also a writer and digital innovation consultant.
Maqsood Khan is a documentary film maker and digital marketing professional with his own company, RFP Digital Media Pvt Ltd. He has a degree in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia. He makes promotional films for corporations, universities and non profits.
He is own of the few from his village in Kaman, Mewat, Rajasthan who have been able to pursue higher education. He wants to be able to give back to his community at some point since the region is low in literacy rate with few opportunities for the youth.
Mohd Asim Mirza possesses 20 years of applied research experience in designing, implementation, impact assessment, monitoring and evaluation of programmes and projects in the areas of poverty, participatory natural resource management, and rural development working at TERI after completing his MSW degree from Jamia Millia Islamia.
Asim has developed his capacity in clean energy access, social assessment and poverty alleviation and income generating activities related urban and rural areas. He has published books and several papers in national and international journals.
Coordinator & Educator
Akbar, known as Raja in the community completed his Bachelor’s degree from Delhi University and is interested in doing a Masters. He is enjoys teaching and is passionate about empowering his community. He has played a key role in building trust and bringing kids and youth to our Centre.
Sudeer Kumar has been mobilizing youth through Right to Education Act (RTE) campaigns and street plays for many years in Trilokpuri. He also teachers English. He is a member of Lakshya, Yuva ki Nayi Disha (A new direction for youth) and has worked with NGO, Josh in the past.
Shama Parveen is pursuing her Bacherlor’s degree and also teaching girls in our afternoon session. The class is challenging with girls of age 4-13 in the same session. She wants to become an educator and this is both a teaching and learning experience for her.
Dr Lubina Qureshy, Economics Consultant, World Bank
Dr Lubina is an independent Development Economics Consultant at World Bank with expertise in analytical work in health, education, and poverty; skills include economic analysis, use of econometrics and other tools to analyse household surveys and other data; cost-benefit analyses, health demand and supply projections, and review of public expenditure. She did her PhD from University of Sussex and worked at TERI before doing her PhD.
Zaid Ahmed, Co-founder Himmat, Social Innovator
Based in Ahmedabad, Zaid has been working in the development sector since 2002 with a focus on livelihood improvement, Habitat development, Occupational Health, Education, Peace and Energy Efficiency.He is also co-founder of Himmat, a 10 year old mostly self sustaining woman’s collective formed by survivors of 2002 Gujarat carnage. Over the years he has transitioned towards creating market linkages, organizing communities and systems workplaces and finding appropriate and innovative solutions for income generating models. Ever an innovator, he has now ventured into organic farming in Jalgaon, Maharashtra.
Renuka Savasere, Social Design and Crafts
With a degree from National Institute of Design, Renuka specializes in crafts and has been working with Pashmina weavers in Kashmir for more than 8 years where she also established craft tourism. She is now planning to work with migrant workers in the Okhla neighborhood.
Professor Sabiha Hussain, Director Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women’s Study, Jamia Millia Islamia
Sabiha Hussain is a sociologist working in the area of gender, Community and development particularly Indian Muslims. She obtained M A, M.Phil and Ph.D from the Centre for the Study of Social System, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She is the recipient of general fellowship awarded by Indian council of social science Research, New Delhi. Before joining Dr. K R Narayanan Centre for Dalit and Minorities, she was a fellow at the Centre for Women’s development Studies, New Delhi since 1998. She has published a book ‘Exposing Myths of Muslim Fertility’ (2008) and is known in both academic and activist circles as a prominent advocate of the rights and empowerment of Muslim women, having spoken on this issue from various national and international forums.
Dr Maqsood Siddiqi, Founder, Cancer Foundation of India
Dr Siddiqi is a scientist and was Director, Bose Institute. He founded Cancer Foundation of India, an NGO dedicated towards cancer control and prevention in India in 2002.
Amitabh Pandey, Scientist, Artist and Activist
Amitabh is an astronomer and founder of SPACE. He likes to promote science to children and adults through interesting interactive and practical methods. He is on a campaign to promote biking in a polluted city like Delhi.
Dr Subhan Khan, Retired Social Scientist, NISTADS, CSIR
A Mewati, Dr Subhan retired a Cheif Scientist, CSIR-NISTADS. His expertise is in examining natural resources and their interaction with human activity to generate information systems required in various decision – making processes using tools and techniques such as GIS, GPS, Internet and Remote Sensing. He has devoted more than 40 years in active social service, being longest President of Mewat Students & Youth Organization (MYSO), founder President & founder Patron, MDS.
Dr Nayyara Shakeel, Director EngenderHealth, Gynecologist
Dr Nayyara is a gynecologist obstetrician with many years of women’s community health experience in Uttar Pradesh. She is currently a Director at Engender Health overlooking operations in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
